The birthstone for December 23 is Tanzanite. This stone can be found in various shades of blue. The birthstones for December are the oldest and first mined gemstones on Earth. Among them, Tanzanite is the most commonly used substitute for sapphire. The rare violet-blue variety of turquoise was discovered in the 1960s. These stones are great gifts for the month of December. The zodiac sign of Libra is associated with the December birthstone.
This gem represents good luck and success. In ancient Egypt, pharaohs wore turquoise bracelets and other jewelry. The color of the gemstone has symbolic value, as well.
